This denotes that the home of Joseph Prevost dit Collet and Henriette Borel was at the Prairie of Free Blacks in St. Martin Parish, LA.

In the Pointe Coupée militia roster of 1770 Joseph Prevost is listed as a “fusillier” (rifleman, infantryman), age 27, who lived on Fausee River about two leagues from the Center of the Union. Pointe Coupée was about seven leagues long with the Center of the Union being the home of Louis Marioneau624,586. In 1774 and 1777 he is listed as a soldier in the Attakapas militia625,597,626,627.

Joseph Prevost had a brand listed in the “Brand Book for Opelousas and Attakapas Districts, 1739-1888”. His brand was listed in St. Martin Parish, LA in 1794628,629

In the Opelousas Post General Census of 1788 Joseph Prevost was living in the Carencro area with an older son. He had three slaves, six cattle, six horses and no property620,621.

In Winston De Ville’s “Marriage Contracts of the Attakapas Post 1760 - 1803” and in the journal “New Orleans Genesis” it is stated that Joseph Prevost, son of Joseph Prevost dit Collete and Magdealine Mayeaux, married Augustine Ducrest, daughter of Louis Armand Ducrest and Anne Catherine Wise579,585. In fact, Augustine Ducrest married Jean-Baptiste Prevost, the brother of Joseph Prevost, on 3 Jun 1789 in St. Martin Parish, LA631,632. Joseph Prevost married Henriette Borel, daugher of Pierre Borel and Catherine Toupard on 3 Nov 1789 in St. Martin Parish, LA633,634. This same error is repeated in the birth record of Joseph Prevost, son of Jean-Baptiste Prevost and Augustine Ducest, who was born on 22 Feb 1791 in St. Martin Parish, LA635,636. In this record the parents of Joseph Prevost are listed as Joseph Prevost and Augustine Ducrest rather than the correct parents - Jean-Baptiste Prevost and Augustine Ducrest. It is also repeated in Judy Riffel’s “A History of Pointe Coupee Parish And Its Families”581.
