There is confusion in the date of death of Grégoire Alexandre LeJeune, son of Jean LeJeune and Françoise Guédry. In the church burial certficate for Hélène Dumont (‘Helena Dumonde’) from St. Joseph Catholic Cathedral in Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish, LA on 17 Sep 1815, she is cited as a widow. She is also listed as 70 years of age (birth year of approximately 1745 - agreeing very well with that of 1747 from other sources). There is no other identifying information given in the burial certificate. If this burial certificate is for Hélène Dumont, daughter of Joseph Dumont and Marie-Madeleine Veco and wife of Grégoire Alexandre LeJeune, then this would indicate that Grégoire Alexandre LeJeune had died before 17 Sep 18155850,5848. In the burial register of St. Joseph Catholic Cathedral in Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish, LA there is a burial certificate for Gregoire LeJeune dated 1 Jul 18265827,5862. He is listed as being ‘ca. 91 years’ of age (birth year of approximately 1735 - agreeing very well with that of 1737 from other sources). No other identifying information is provided in the burial certificate. Potential sources of error include that one or both of these are not the burial certificate(s) for Grégoire LeJeune, son of Jean LeJeune and Françoise Guédry and/or Hélène Dumont, daughter of Joseph Dumont and Marie-Madeleine Veco or that the term ‘widow’ on the burial certificate of Helene Dumont is incorrect. We do know that Grégoire LeJeune and Hélène Dumont lived in the Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish, LA area and have numerous documents about their lives recorded in the archives of St. Joseph Catholic Cathedral in Baton Rouge, LA. I tend to believe that the term ‘widow’ may be in error on the burial certificate of Hélène Dumont.
