Notes for Josephte GUEDRY dit Grivois
In the 1840 U. S. Census the family of Jean Anselme Guédry (called Samuel Jiddry) had two males that were 30-40 years old, five males that were 0-5 years old, one female that was 40-50 years old, one female that was 20-30 years old, three females that were 5-10 years old and one female that was 0-5 years old. These probably refer to Jean Anselme Guédry and an unknown man living with the family (30-40 years old males), Alexander Guédry, Hilaire Guédry, possibly Urbain Guédry and two unknown boys living with the family (0-5 years old males), an unknown woman (40-50 year old female), Suzanne Violette (20-30 year old female), Josephte Guédry and two unknown girls living with the family (5-10 year old females) and Martine Guédry (0-5 year old female) [Note that in the 1850 U. S. Census there is a Joseph Guedry listed as 16 years old male laborer; however, Josephte does not appear. This is the only place in the records where this Joseph Guedry appears while Josephte Guedry is prominent in the records for many years. It seems an error was made in the 1850 U. S. Census.].

Questions/Errors notes for Josephte GUEDRY dit Grivois
The death record for Josette Grivois (Josephte Guedry dit Grivois) states that she was 74 years old when she died on 16 April 1903. Thus she would have been born in 1824. Josephte Guedry dit Grivois was actually born about 1834. Death records of elderly people, being recorded so long after their birth, are often incorrect in identifying their year of birth.

In the 1850 United States Census Josephte Guedry dit Grivois is listed as Joseph Gedree, a male laborer who is 16 years old. It appears the English enumerator of the census (Mr. B. Cummings) erred in writing Joseph rather than Josephte - both of which sound alike. In writing the name Joseph, he assumed he was a male and being 16 years of age assumed he must be a laborer for his father's farm. The correct entry would have been Josephte Gedree, female and 16 years old.
