SIMON JEDREYSimon JEDREY one of Gloucester’s [Mass.] best known carpenters died on Wednesday of last week at Addison Gilbert Hospital at the age of 74 years 4 months and 11 days. He had been a patient at the hospital since April 9 and was ready to go home when he took a turn for the worst and passed away shortly afterward. He was a native of Salmon River, Digby County and was the son of Pierre and Elizabeth [BABINE] JEDREY. Going to Gloucester as a young man, he learned the ship’s trade and had been employed along the waterfront for more than half a century. He was a skilled mechanic and during his life time had contracted alone several small boats. His wife, Mrs. Cecelia [MUNROE] CAMPBELL died on January 11, 1942. He leaves a brother Fred JEDREY in Meteghan and two sisters in Nova Scotia; also several nieces and nephews. The funeral was held from his late home, 23 Dodge Street, Saturday morning at 9:15 o’clock. Requiem high mass was celebrated at St. Ann’s Church at 9:45 o’clock. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. “

Questions/Errors notes for Elisabeth BABIN
The parents of Elisabeth Babin, husband of Pierre Jeddry, have been difficult to determine. In the 1840-1844 Census by Father Jean-Mandé Sigogne there is but one Elisabeth Babin and she appears to be the daughter of Luc Babin and Marguerite Melanson. A descendant of Elisabeth Babin, however, confirmed that he has obtained a copy of her burial record from Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Catholic Church in Salmon River, Nova Scotia, Canada and the burial record lists Gervais Babin as her father.
14041 Furthermore, this descendant writes “I descend from Pierre Jeddry & his wife Elizabeth Babin. Elizabeth was not the daughter of Luc Babin & Marguerite Melanson (you will find her in the Digby County 1871-1881 & 1891 census living with her brother Clement and she never married). I received the death record of Elizabeth (Babin) Jeddry from Saint Vincent de Paul in Salmon River, Nova Scotia and she was the daughter of Gervais Babin. Elizabeth Babin was born about 1885 in Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia.”
14041Below is the listing from Father Jean-Mandé Sigogne’s 1840-1844 Census of the St. Mary’s Bay area.

I have listed the father of Elisabeth Babin as Gervais Babin based on the burial record.

Questions/Errors notes for Pierre (Spouse 1)
Daryl LaBine
13713 states that Pierre Gedree was born in 1822 while Bernard Geddry
13715 lists 1821 as the birth year for Pierre Gedree. Daryl LaBine
13713 states that Maurice Jeddry was a son of Philippe Gedree and Angélique Theriau and was born on 29 October 1821. Bernard Geddry does not list Maurice Jeddry as a son of this family. If Maurice Jeddry is a son of the family and was born in 1821, then it appears probable that Pierre Gedree was born in 1822 and not 1821. Also, the “Catalogue of the Families of the Parishes of St. Mary’s Bay and St. Mandé etc. 1818-1823”
13721,13718 lists the birth date of Pierre Gedree as 19 October 1821 and does not list Maurice Jeddry as son of Philippe Gedree and Angélique Theriau. It seems very likely that Pierre Gedree was born on 19 October 1821 and that Maurice was not a son of Philippe Gedree and Angélique Theriau.

Mark Labine
4811 lists the parents of Pierre Gedree as Hermel Pierre Guidry and Anne Belliveau. This is incorrect. As noted by Daryl LaBine
14007 and by Bernard Geddry
14040, his parents were Philippe Gedree and Angélique Theriau.
